Working at Joseph Chamberlain Sixth Form College is very rewarding and we always expect the best from our students. Being part of our team is fun, the coffee is free, and we often laugh at the same things. All of our colleagues, whether teachers or support staff, make a huge contribution to our students' success.
Joseph Chamberlain College has recently gained national recognition by winning the Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education - one of only twenty universities and colleges in the UK to receive this prestigious award at Buckingham Palace in February 2008.
Our comprehensive portfolio of courses at different levels provides the opportunity for students to progress and we genuinely make a difference to students' life chances. More than 300 of our students go on to university every year and we have strong links or compacts with Cambridge, Birmingham, Warwick, Coventry, Aston and BCU.
The College is comparatively small which enables us to focus on providing excellent teaching and learning together with effective personal pastoral and tutor support on our 16+ courses and our programme of adult and community courses.
We take pride in the friendly multi-cultural atmosphere at the College where staff and students know each other well. There is a team approach and our ethos is to encourage individuals to reach their maximum potential. The emphasis is on teaching rather than lecturing.
Staff are encouraged to develop their skills and knowledge with support for continuing professional development. Teachers also benefit professionally from the close links the College has with universities.
The College is also highly regarded by its local community and provides a wide range of adult courses both on site and at more than a dozen neighbourhood centres. Situated close to Birmingham City centre about a mile from New Street Station it is close to major road and public transport links.
The doors opened on our new state-of-the-art college in September 2008 and we now have one of the best working environments of any school or college in the UK. Our new campus is set to become one of Birmingham's iconic landmark buildings and a likely winner of a prestigious architectural award.
