College Life

At Joseph Chamberlain College, we are committed to offering exciting and dynamic teaching to all of our students. We put a strong emphasis on developing you as young adults to contribute to the community of the College and society as a whole. We don’t have the same restrictions as schools and you are free to leave the College grounds when you have no classes. Being a smaller, more tight-knit community than many large Further Education colleges, we promote high levels of respect and tolerance.

At JCC you’ll study 4 AS-Levels, more than the recommended 3 studied at most colleges. In second year, you’ll drop one of these subjects and go on to study 3 A-Levels, you can read more about why we encourage this here.

In 2017, 91% of our students progressed to university. We have only the best teachers who can have a real and significant impact on your life.

Our College building received numerous awards when it first opened. The College was a winner of a RIBA award for architectural excellence and the College is also one of the few colleges in the UK to be a recipient of the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Further & Higher Education and the Prime Minister’s Prize for the best public building in the UK. It comprises of the main site; a separate teaching block (Orchard House), a sports centre and an Adult Learning Centre on Moseley Road. Every classroom is fully equipped with a computer, smart board and white board. There are specialist rooms for art and design, fully-equipped laboratories and the latest in learning technologies such as a 3D projector. We have Wi-Fi for student use, a hall with 200 seats and a garden – providing a fresh learning environment and a green space for relaxation.

We were one of only three sixth form colleges featured in the latest Parliamentary Review which highlights best practice in Further and Higher Education.  Our staff regularly contribute to national conferences and share best practice in the sector. We have active links with educational organisations in China, Japan and Germany.

On my first day here everyone was so friendly, I have made friends for life at JCC!
