Equality & Diversity

“Valuing each individual & respecting our differences”

At Joseph Chamberlain College, we believe in equality of opportunity for all staff and students. We are committed to making our College a better place in which to learn. Equality is very important to us and we ensure every student and member of staff is treated fairly, with dignity and respect, regardless of their age, ability, ethnicity, gender identity, religion or sexual orientation. We challenge all forms of discrimination and prejudice.

Mission statement

Joseph Chamberlain Sixth Form College is committed to embracing diversity and inspiring all learners to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding to equip them for success in a globally interconnected world. The College encourages all members of our community to be socially responsible citizens respecting our shared values and individual differences.

In 2018, we received the Silver Award from UK Investor in Equality & Diversity (UKIED). The award recognises our achievements in establishing and promoting equality & diversity, safeguarding and equal opportunities throughout the College.

JCC Website Accessibility

Our website was built to comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) level 2. Full details of which can be found here.

The colours used throughout the site were tested by our website developers to ensure they are easiest to see for the largest possible range of sights. This tool was used to check compliance with the WCAG level 2. The fonts being used throughout the site; futura-pt, Arial and sans-serif are plain, evenly spaced fonts very close to Century Gothic, which is recommended in the Dyslexia Style Guide produced by the British Dyslexia Association. The full guide can be viewed here.

For users who are visually impaired modern browsers accommodate ‘zoom in’ functions, our site is built with this in mind and when a user zooms in, the text is still readable, with the responsive layout adjusting so nothing crashes or overlaps. When zoomed in to 250% the site switches to its mobile version so that all the menus and functions still work and are easy to use.

Throughout the site and across our social media channels, we have added ‘alt tags’ and descriptions to all images on each page. This is to help users who access the site with screen readers.

If you require any information from our website in a different format, please let us know so we can accommodate your needs.
