Our Childcare department have run a fantastic donations programme. With hampers full of goodies now on the way to children across the city.
Throughout November and December our Childcare department have been collecting gifts for vulnerable children. There has been tremendous generosity shown by the college community and members of the public. With donations ranging from toys, gadgets, craft activities, books, teddies, clothes and games. Contributions have included full Disney princess collections, a 4ft teddy, books for all ages and Bluetooth speakers! We send a huge thank you to everyone who has been involved.
These amazing donations have now been gifted to Birmingham Children’s Trust and Jubilee Church Solihull.
The Childcare department selected two local contacts to send the donations to, these are:
• Birmingham Children’s Trust make a positive difference for children, young people and families in the city. They support disadvantaged children and young people, ensuring they are safe and their voice is heard. Find out more here.
• Jubilee Children’s Storehouse provide free, good quality children’s clothes, toys and equipment to those families in need. Find out more here.
“The students are very excited to be a part of this and it’s so important for them to realise first-hand the difference they can make when they leave us as qualified practitioners.” Donna Bromfield, Teacher of Child’s Play, Learning and Development.
The scheme has given students a wider understanding of the different family services who work with disadvantaged children. Alongside developing their awareness and compassion for children and young people who are in care, have recently left care or whose families need support.
Kindness, warmth and empathy are key skills for our Childcare students to grow. Once they complete their Level 3 qualification they will be awarded the Early Years Educator status. This means they can enter employment as a Nanny, Childminder, Early Years Educator or a Teaching Assistant. A number of our Childcare students will progress onto University. Where they train to become Primary School Teachers, Special Educational Needs Teachers, Speech and Language Therapists, Family Support Workers or Social Workers.
