This course is an alternative to GCSE Science which still allows you to study the core Science subjects of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. As well as focusing on the necessary scientific concepts, this BTEC also develops the practical skills that are required for careers within the Science sector and explores how these skills are utilised in the workplace.
This course is assessed through a mixture of assignments and exams. There are twelve units in total; two of these units are assessed via external examinations, and the other ten are assessed by assignments. The grades achieved in the exams and assignments are combined to give an overall final grade.
After successful completion of this Level 2 BTEC course, you will be able to progress onto the Level 3 National Extended Diploma BTEC in Applied Science, provided that the appropriate grades in GCSE Maths and GCSE English are also achieved.
A minimum of 5 grade 3s, including a grade 3 or above in GCSE English Language, is required. GCSE Maths must also be at grade 3 as a minimum. If GCSE Maths is at a grade 3, you would have to resit GCSE Maths. If GCSE English Language is at a grade 3, you would have to resit GCSE English Language.
