Personal Progress Tutors (PPTs)
At Joseph Chamberlain College, we offer one-to-one support for all our students. One of the main sources of support, advice, and guidance for your child will be their Personal Progress Tutor (PPT). All students are assigned a dedicated PPT who will monitor their academic progress and support them throughout the whole time they are with us at Joseph Chamberlain College.
Your child’s PPT will have an overview of their personal development and ensure they are achieving academically to the best of their ability. Your child will meet them every week and have regular one-to-one meetings about their progress. Our PPTs are also here to help your child settle into college life and see to it that they feel supported in facing any challenges they may experience during this critical time in their lives.
As mentioned above, your child will have numerous discussions with their PPT, including weekly group tutorials and regular one-to-one sessions as part of our progress monitoring process. Twice a year, your child will also meet with their teachers in order to discuss progress. These meetings will allow your child to be clear on how they’re performing in each subject and provide them with targets and goals so they can work towards the next grade. After discussing their progress with subject teachers, students will have an extended interview with their PPT to discuss their overall progress.
In November, you will receive a Progress Monitoring Report detailing your child’s progress. Additionally, in the spring term, you will have the opportunity to attend a Parent and Carer Progress Evening to discuss your child’s progress further and be advised about how they could improve.
Included within our support staff team are our Academic Learning Coaches (ALCs). Our ALCs work in the Open Learning Centre (OLC) and Library to offer extra support to students. They are available on a drop-in basis for students who want additional help with specific subjects, time management, revision skills, organisation, and exam preparation.
