“Democracy in Action”
Would you like to be involved in making decisions about your course? Then why not consider joining the Student Council – a democratic organisation open to adult learners.
Our adult Student Council is made up of representatives from each course at each centre. Once a term, the group meet for a meal with Senior Leadership to exchange ideas and feedback. This ensures that all of our students have a voice, and gives everyone the opportunity to put forward suggestions for improvements and new courses.
In the past year, feedback from the Student Council has led to centre improvements, and they have also successfully lobbied for our new ‘Teaching and Learning in Schools’ (Teaching Assistant) course.
At Joseph Chamberlain College, Adult Learning is about much more than just studying – we are a social and friendly community. During your course, you will have the opportunity to go on at least one outing a year.
In the past, our visits have included:
• Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Markets
• The Library of Birmingham
• London – with a ride on the London Eye, a boat crossing on the Thames and a visit to the Houses of Parliament, where students were shown around the House of Lords by a local Lord
Throughout the year, students are invited to a number of shared lunches and celebrations, including Eid, Diwali, Christmas and Easter.
