College Events 2010/20

Open Day: 19th October 2019
Open Evenings: 19th November 2019, 21st January 2020 and 25th February 2020

Open events are an opportunity for potential students and their parents or carers to come and look around the college. There will usually be a presentation given by a senior member of staff to give you general information about the college. Staff will be around to tell you more about each subject and discuss any questions you have. You will be given a prospectus and course information to take home, so you can decide whether they would like to apply to JCC. Open Day is open to everyone, Open Evening is by appointment only.

Student of the Year Awards: 23rd October 2019

The Student of the Year Awards is an annual ceremony (previously the Beacon Awards) celebrating the success of students after they complete their studies at JCC. Students and guests are invited back to college for an evening of award presentations, performances, guest speakers and portrait photographs. Awards are given for categories such as high grades, effort and attitude, sports achievements and extra curricular contributions.

Christmas Party: 17th December 2019

Every December, the Student Council hosts a charity Christmas party. Activities typically include a Walk of Fame, dessert parlour, DJs, photobooth and awards.

Special Educational Needs & Disabilities Transition Evening: 29th January 2020

Transition Evening is specifically for young people (Year 10 and 11) with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities to visit the college with their parents and meet the Inclusive Learning Team. This is an opportunity to find out about the transition from school to College and plan any support required. You will be able to tour the College’s facilities and meet current students, key workers, the pastoral team and specialist teachers from the Local Authority. For more SEND information, click here.

Progress Evening: 11th February 2020

Progress evening is an opportunity for your parents or carers to meet your tutors, check you are on track to meet your predicted grades and learn more about the college’s exam process. Staff will also be available to explain key dates, grading, university and careers, and how your parents and carers can support your revision.

UCAS Presentation Evening: 15th June 2020

Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) is the organisation which oversees university applications. If you are intending to go to university then it is important that you attend this information evening with your parent or carer. There will be a representative from a local university who will guide you through the process of supporting your child’s application. Some of the key topics covered are writing a personal statement, completing the online application form and funding. You will receive an information booklet during the evening. Progression Day: 19th June 2020

We invite representatives from local businesses and national recruiters into College to give presentations about career options after JCC. They’re here to answer any questions, from qualification requirements to their daily routine, to help students make informed decisions. This year we have over 50  professionals involved; including midwifes, engineers, lawyers and creatives. Representatives from universities and other higher education providers will also be here to speak to students about taking the next steps with their education. Summer Festival: 20th June 2020

Summer Festival is a free event open to both College members and the public, held on campus to raise money for charity and celebrate College life. Student art is exhibited and visitors are encouraged to get involved in creative demonstrations. Previous crafts involved have included henna tattoos, cookery, jewellery making and pottery. See our Summer Festival 2019 photos here.

End of Term Trip: 22nd June 2020

A celebratory end of term trip for students, usually to Alton Towers. A great chance for students and staff alike to unwind and have fun after exams.

Leavers’ Prom: June 23rd 2020

A farewell ball for second year students before you move on from College. The Leavers’ Prom is a night of music, dancing, photos, red carpets and refreshments.

Year 10 Taster Days: 25th and 26th June 2020

Taster Days give year 10 prospective students the opportunity to experience a day in the life at JCC. Students will attend sessions for four subjects of their choice to sample the content and learning environments of different departments within college, to see if JCC is the best choice for their needs.

Model United Nations: Date to be confirmed 2020

The Model United Nations Conference is a parallel discussion to the work of the United Nations. Approximately 100 students aged 16-18 from across the country come to JCC for a weekend of debate. Colleges send teams of student delegates to represent a certain country’s point of view on a range of topics and debate which resolutions should be passed. Click here to see our MUN 2019 photos.

New Student Days: 6th and 7th July 2020

New students days are for Year 11 pupils who have been offered a place at JCC for the next academic year. Students are welcomed into college to meet tutors, tour the college, attend the subject fair and watch an assembly by the Principal. They will also be given ID cards and summer homework in preparation for the start of term.
