Our Health and Social Care department has a new classroom!
Joseph Chamberlain College has a brand-new clinical skills classroom. This replica hospital is an ideal space for practising key tasks found in health and care settings.
This week our Head of Department welcomed students to the clinical skills enrichment club. A fantastic opportunity for students who are interested in a career in nursing. Nadia, a second year Health and Social Care student, is considering a route into paediatrics as she is passionate about working with children and a job which offers variety.
Students have access to lots of online resources to launch this exciting programme. Later in the year students will get to experience hands on demonstrations and scenarios. Including observation skills where they will learn to record and report on blood pressure, BMI and uranalysis. They will learn how to make a hospital bed and bathe patients. The classroom is also home to a number of models and industry equipment. Students will be carrying out activities like pressure sore monitoring, calculating medication and using a hoist.
Students who complete the programme will receive a certificate recognising their accomplishment. Supporting them to progress into further training and the next steps of their nursing career.
