High Achievers

#KeepGrowing

The High Achievers Programme is designed for students who intend to apply for courses with rigorous entry standards and competitive selection processes.

Through this programme, you will receive guidance on every stage of your application, including personal statements, entrance assessments, and interviews. You’ll also gain valuable experience through academic competitions and opportunities to interact with admissions experts and current university students.

Who is Eligible?

Open to students with strong GCSE results, typically several grades 7, 8, or 9.

Programme Structure

Eligible students are enrolled at the start of Year 12. Weekly sessions, led by the programme coordinator, focus on building essential skills and providing personalised feedback. Throughout the year, you’ll prepare systematically for the demands of competitive university applications.

Skills You Will Develop

As part of the High Achievers Programme, you will build a range of practical and academic skills designed to strengthen your university applications and support your studies. Click on each skill below to learn more about what you will gain.

You will learn to organise your thoughts clearly and support your opinions with evidence, both in essays and in spoken presentations. This ability is fundamental for academic work at university, where you are often expected to defend your viewpoint and communicate complex ideas effectively to others.

The programme helps you develop confidence in tackling challenging reading materials, such as academic articles or scientific papers, as well as interpreting graphs and datasets. Gaining these skills allows you to engage critically with source material, a core requirement for success in many university subjects.

You will have opportunities to design your own research questions, plan investigations, and present your results. This process encourages independent learning and the ability to communicate your findings clearly – skills that are necessary for coursework, dissertations, and research at university level.

Effective time management and self-organisation are crucial for balancing multiple subjects and assignments. By learning how to plan your workload and meet deadlines, you will be better prepared for the demands of sixth form and university study, where independent responsibility is expected.

You will work with other students on projects, discussions, and debates, learning how to listen, share ideas, and reach consensus. Collaboration is highly valued at university and in the workplace, and these experiences help you develop teamwork and communication skills.

The programme provides opportunities to take initiative, whether by chairing group discussions or coordinating project tasks. Developing leadership skills in these settings helps you build confidence and prepares you for roles of responsibility in university societies and beyond.

You will receive focused preparation for university admissions tests, such as the BMAT, UCAT, or LNAT. These assessments often require problem-solving and critical thinking skills not covered in standard curricula, and targeted practice can make a significant difference in your performance.

Mock interviews give you experience in thinking on your feet and articulating your ideas under pressure. This is invaluable for university admissions, where interviews often test not just knowledge but your ability to reason, explain, and respond to new scenarios.

Support is provided to help you craft a personal statement that showcases your achievements, interests, and motivation for your chosen course. A well-written statement is a key part of a successful university application, and you will learn how to make yours stand out.
