Upcoming Student of the Year Awards
Tomorrow, Joseph Chamberlain College will once again host one of its favourite events of the college year: the Student of the Year Awards. With an outstanding number of students being awarded the highest grades this summer, more students than ever securing places on the most competitive degree courses in the country, and the college’s recent ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted accreditation in every category for the second time in a row, there is a lot for the college to celebrate during the evening. It is a momentous occasion and an incredibly special opportunity to recognise and celebrate the students’ phenomenal achievements.
This year, similar to the last, there will be a delicious buffet, with exciting entertainment waved into the evening. Last year’s guest speaker was Avril Grant. Avril filled the college’s students with motivation, equipping them with multiple philosophies and offering valuable advice to aid them in the future. Celebrating the evening were numerous exciting performances, including Georgie Mason, who introduced the evening spectacularly through her atmospheric songs; Barbara Krajewska infused the room with excitement through her incredible electric violin performances, and Back2Back brought the evening to a close through a phenomenal dance routine paired with a dhol drumming performance.
Last year’s awards evening fulfilled its purpose of celebrating the incredible achievements of the college’s students but also provided an invaluable opportunity for the college’s alumni to reminisce on nostalgic memories with old friends and teachers. Yusra commented, “As a JCC graduate, coming back this evening was the best experience, reliving all my time here as a student and getting recognition for my achievements. Thank you, JCC.” Former student Sky added, “My experience at JCC was amazing. It helped me build my confidence and self-worth. I learned how to ask for help, and the college helped me grow as a person.”
One of the college’s outstanding alumni, Abubakar Mohamud, gave an incredible speech during last year’s awards ceremony, describing what Joseph Chamberlain College meant to him. The speech was exceptionally moving, touching on his time at the college and how the support it provided helped him to enrol at Cambridge University, “the university of his dreams.” After the evening, Abubakar said: “This was a really great and inspirational evening. Coming back to JCC this evening, I am reminded of JCC’s dedication to its students.”
The college is thrilled to host this year’s Student of the Year Awards tomorrow and make it just as special as the last.
