What to Expect at Your Welcome Day!
Joseph Chamberlain College is thrilled to welcome its newest cohort of offer holders to an exciting, hands-on Welcome Day. This special event is designed to showcase life at the college, provide a taste of the vibrant subject areas available, and introduce key areas such as the JCC Extra Enrichment Programme and Futures Team.
This day is exclusively for offer holders — students who have applied, been interviewed, and received a conditional offer to study at JCC. If this applies to you, you should have received a letter detailing the date and time of your Welcome Day. If you haven’t received this, please contact our Admissions Team at admissions@jcc.ac.uk as soon as possible.
Welcome Day is a unique opportunity to meet fellow future students, explore the campus, enjoy the Food Festival, and take part in Subject Insights — interactive sessions that reflect the dynamic and engaging teaching at JCC, the only Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ Sixth Form College in Birmingham/Solihull.
Across all departments, staff have been busy preparing creative, hands-on activities to give you a real flavour of college life and the subjects you’ll be studying. Here are a few examples:
Law – Order in the Court!
Step into the ‘JCC Courtroom’ and take part in a realistic trial, investigating the strange case of Dr Jekyll and the disappearance of Sir Danvers — become immersed as this puzzling case comes to life.
Criminology – Can You Crack the Case?
Get hands-on with forensics by collecting your own fingerprints and analysing evidence to try and crack Harmony’s cold case. Will your detective skills solve it?
Politics – What Do You Really Believe?
Which political party do your views actually align with? Take part in a quick and thought-provoking politics activity that might just surprise you.
Psychology – Mind Games & Brain Builds!
Can you tell a psychologist from a serial killer? Put your instincts to the test! You’ll also take part in a buzz test, seeing how stress affects you, and build a brain — how quick can you do it?
Maths – Puzzles, Patterns & Marbleslides!
Explore how maths helps us think creatively and logically through interactive marbleslides, puzzles, and chess.
Geography – Mapping Your Journey!
Mark the furthest place you’ve ever been on a map and discover just how global the JCC community really is.
PE & Sport – Get Moving With JCC!
Join in with practical PE sessions, recreational sport, and interactive theory lessons. Get a real taste of both the physical and academic sides of sport at JCC.
IT – Design, Build, Animate!
Use industry-standard software to design your own app interface, build a web page, or create a simple animation. You’ll also learn more about our exciting IT courses and future career opportunities.
Biology – Microscopes and Measurements!
Use a light microscope to view and identify tissues, and try out real physiological measurements like blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and peak flow.
Art & Design – Make, Draw, Animate!
Get creative across three exciting spaces! Try your hand at printmaking, digital drawing, or stop-motion animation, and get inspired by incredible work from our current students across Art & Design, Graphic Design, Photography and Creative & Digital Media.
Education & Early Years – Play, Learn, Discover!
Explore how young children learn through sensory play, digital technology, and more. You’ll also create your own ‘All About Me’ portrait, telling us about you and your family, and learn about ‘Small World Play’ and ‘Milestone-Matching’ — what should children be doing for their age and stage?
This Welcome Day not only gives you a window of insight into course content and college life, but also reflects our commitment to offering a supportive, inspiring, and future-focused environment for every student.
