OCR Level 3 AAQ Cambridge Advanced National in Computing: Application Development (Certificate/Extended Certificate)

This course is a Level 3 AAQ Cambridge Advanced National in Computing, a two-year course that is equivalent to one A-Level. This qualification will provide you with the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills within the field of Computing. You will learn about the different stages that developers go through to produce a working software application.

You will also learn the principles of UX (User Experience)/UI (User Interface) design and how to develop ideas for UX/UI solutions which meet specific requirements alongside the design process to create graphical representations.

In the second year of the course, you will learn about software design principles and different programming language types; you will use a programming language to code designs to produce a working solution. You will explore implementation methodology, how data moves in applications and beyond and how developers deploy finished applications to users. You will also learn about website principles and how to develop a prototype website.

Course Assessment

This two-year course contains five units. Two units are assessed through an exam, and the other three are assessed through externally set assignments, which are then marked internally.

Overall, there are three mandatory units and two optional units. The mandatory units are Fundamentals of Application Development, Developing Application Software and Designing and Communicating UX/UI solutions. The optional units are Website Development and Software Development.

Course Prospects

This qualification will allow you to progress in Higher Education in a Computing-based subject or a range of non-Computing-based subject areas, depending on your other chosen subjects.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 6 grade 4s, including a grade 4 or above in GCSE English Language, is required. GCSE Maths must also be at grade 3 as a minimum. If GCSE Maths is at a grade 3, you would have to resit it.
